Custom Installation Videos

Installation DVDs are the wave of the future!

Here are some facts about Install DVDs

  • No one reads instructions!
  • Guy’s are visual beings. They don’t read books, maps or instructions, but they will watch a highly detailed, easy to understand DVD on their TV or computer.
  • Head-off frivolous returns from customers that misinstall or improperly tune your products
  • Stop bogus warranty issues in their tracks!
  • Save TIME and MONEY
  • DVDs cost less to manufacture than most printed instructions and have enough storage space to also put your entire catalog on them too!
  • DVDs show WAY more detail than ANY written instructions period!
  • Footage can be converted into short clips for consumers to down load right off your web site anytime they need it
  • Save money by Freeing up your tech lines and tech staff
  • These make fantastic training DVDs for employees and salespeople who sell your products.
  • Show consumers how to remove their old parts, how to PROPERLY install your products, how to adjust and tune and even show consumers how to TROUBLE SHOOT minor problems rather than return your products back to the dealer, which costs YOU time and money!
  • An Installation DVD costs less to produce than a typical color ad in a magazine, and unlike a single ad that is good for only one month, an installation DVD is good for years to come!

So what’s this all about?

Power Building Videos has branched off into filming, producing and manufacturing "Installation DVD's" for numerous performance parts manufacturers to supplement the costly printed instruction manuals that come with the products they sell. Why? Simple. To head-off problems caused by consumer mis-installation, to stop costly returns & frivolous warranty issues, and of course, to save YOU time and money.

We all know consumers don't read instructions, and because of this, there are high return rates with certain parts that had nothing wrong with them in the first place simply because of ignorance and lack of skill on the customer’s part.

Unfortunately there aren’t many “journeyman” parts people anymore. Most of the time a retail parts salesmen is an inexperienced kid right out of high school with little, to no hands-on experience in the automotive and performance field. They are trained over and over again to make the customer happy at just about any cost. Well, this cost ends up coming out of YOUR POCKET!

Here’s the scenario: A customer goes to his local discount auto supply house and purchases something simple, such as a carburetor. He takes it home, installs it and hooks vacuum lines up wrong and doesn’t install a fuel filter. Now his car runs terrible and he is upset, so he returns the carb where he purchased it and of course, the counter salesman can’t help him with any technical advice to fix the minor little problem or show him what he did wrong, so he just hands him another carburetor and sends the customer back home.

Now you have one carb that has already been mounted and has been full of fuel (and now dirt) that you can’t sell again as new, and you have a customer on his way back to his house, ready to make the same mistakes all over again.

Once he installs the second carburetor and makes the same mistakes all over again, he is going to head back to the parts house and return it AGAIN. Now you now have TWO carburetors coming back under “warranty” that in reality, had nothing wrong with them in the first place other than customer mis-installation, and there was nothing in the printed instructions to SHOW him how to remedy his problems.

You can’t READ detail needed to remedy or head-off problems like this, and no “picture” can give enough detail to really show them what they did wrong and what they need to do to fix it, so not only are YOU getting TWO carburetors back, you also have a VERY upset customer that is now going to purchase another brand of carburetor, and in the mean time, go around bad mouthing YOUR products, even though the “problem” wasn’t your fault in the first place. This makes no difference though, you are STILL getting TWO carburetors back, which is going to cost YOU time and money, and these days, a few bad words in a few internet forums can spread faster than you can imagine!

If this customer was supplied with a HIGHLY DETAILED INSTALLATION DVD, he could have popped it into his TV or computer and seen first hand what to do to avoid, or even remedy his little problems. Now you don’t have a returned carburetor, and now you have a happy customer that is going to spread good words about your products!

In early 2005, Edelbrock saw our Power Building Videos DVDs at the SEMA show. Shortly after that, Vic Edelbrock contacted me and said he liked our DVDs so much, he wanted us to film highly detailed, yet simple to understand DVD to come with every new carburetor they sell, plus he wanted us to do many others for all of the other products they manufacture.

The reason Vic wanted this DVD was to head-off a problem with high return rates from mail order houses and discount parts stores where they have a high turn over of sales staff of whom mostly have little to no experience with cars or engines. The return rate from “speed shops” wasn’t an issue though, because most speed shops are ran by experienced sales people who have fairly extensive experience with cars and engines, and can help a customer troubleshoot a problem, rather than handing them another item to go make the same mistakes all over again.

This Edelbrock Installation DVD shows customers how to remove their old carb, how to clean and prep the intake manifold and how to install, hook-up, adjust and tune the new carb. It also showcases extra parts to compliment the install (and create more sales), such as fuel filters, air cleaners, linkage kits and so on, PLUS is has about a dozen common trouble shooting problems that people can click-on to see how to remedy a slight problem (usually a mis-installation problem) rather than return the carb for another one.

This was such a big hit at the 2006 PWA show, I was approached by numerous companies wanting me to film and host instructional DVDs for them too. These companies included Centerforce Clutches, Accel EFI systems, G-Force Suspensions, Power Brake Service, JBA Headers and several others were highly interested.

We are currently working on a DVD for Blower Drive Service to show how to correctly install one of their superchargers, as well as how to tune their engine, trouble shoot quirks, and so on, because they have SO many problems with customers NOT reading instructions and tying-up their tech staff, tech lines and 800 numbers.

A DVD is something that costs less than most printed instructions on paper. They can have varying types of packaging, such as plain white paper sleeves, to beautifully printed, full color cardboard jackets depending on what you want to spend per unit. The average cost per unit is in the 40 to 60 cents area.

A DVD has the ability to show so much detail that a customer with very little knowledge can install, adjust and even remedy any potential problems all by himself, which frees-up your tech lines, cuts way down on bogus returns / warranty issues, and makes for many more happy customers, all at a production cost that is less than a typical, one time magazine ad.

A really neat feature is that footage can be broken down into short, downloadable segments that you can have available to ALL of your past, present and future customers on your web site!

So who am I, and why am I qualified to host your Installation DVD?

First off, I am a real engine / car builder and have been building race winning cars, show winning street rods and bad to the bone engines (specializing in blowers and nitrous) since the 70’s. I have a world wide reputation, with cars and engines running in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Turkey, Germany, Egypt, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and just about all of the lower 48 states!

Because of my experience, I have probably installed and used many of the parts you manufacture many times over, which means I have the hands-on experience to convey to YOUR customers, as well as showing little tricks and tips that most manufacturers don’t even know about their own products.

I own Bad Ass Racing Engines, as well as Power Building Videos. I also own all of my own digital production, editing and manufacturing equipment that we use for my Power Building Videos series. We film everything right here in the shop, not a fake, over glamorized TV set. Everything is filmed in state of the art digital format with 3 cameras! This assures the best detail and the best resolution possible. Your customers will KNOW they are getting the best information from someone that has real experience.

I’m not a Sunday morning TV host, but I do have the knack for being in front of the camera. Everyone loves my enthusiasm, the way I speak in easy to understand, plain English, and how I explain things in ways that even the least experienced person can understand. This is what made my Power Building Videos series so popular.

I would like to send you a sample DVD with information about what an Installation DVD can do for you, so you can find out why so many major manufacturer’s are saving both time & money by getting rid of their old school written instructions and going to highly detailed installation DVDs instead!
